about groceries and gathering

I found the first changed and fallen leaf in my backyard the other day. It started me thinking that it would be fun to change a few colors inside, too. I don't have much seasonal dècor so for me decorating for the change of seasons usually means a trip to the grocery store or farm stand.

On the shopping list:

Apples

Fresh flowers in bright orange

Native corn

Then it is time to forage through the house like a squirrel to find things to add for personality.

Ribbons

Cards

Cookie cutters, tags, a cupcake pick and flower frogs, and a prized decoupaged bucket from Target from a few years ago

A jar (big surprise!) filled with "playground presents" from my boys, the faux cherries from Target that I move around constantly, an empty bucket. Hmmm? Any suggestions?

I won this lovely dish last November from sweetie pie Cynthia at Cynthia's Cottage Design. Winning her giveaway introduced me to so many wonderful bloggers and really changed blogging for me. I'll always be so thankful to Cynthia for that.

I have 2 very yummy apple recipes listed toward the bottom of my sidebar, if you're interested. I make both all apple season long and they are delicious!

Can't wait to try the recipes. I saw my first red leaf on the ground today when I was out walking and had the same thoughts about decorating!

I love the idea of decorating for the season change by using apples and things from nature...I don't do too much fall decorating because we are surrounded by trees and falling leaves here. But I love baking and making apple pies, etc.

I love the jar full of things from your boys - so sweet!

Hi,

I had seen a bucket similar to yours, and she filled it high with hay, and they perched a little pumpkin on top. She tied a fallish ribbon on it and it looked so pretty. She had one on each side of her mantel.

Fall decorations are fun--so many things that add personality to one's home. In the past couple of years I have lost the spark to decorate for the seasons/holidays
but coming to blogland has helped give me inspiration from everyone's ideas!

Have a great evening.

Hi Elyse beautiful Fall color.
I love the metal grate, that is so pretty and I love the little bows on the chandelier. How sweet is that and a nice touch. The empty bucket, fill it with a bag of potpourri and a little scarecrow. If it is a big bucket, fill it half full with a fake bottom (just cut you a cardboard shape and put it in the bucket, and then you could add your potpourri (one with the big items) and add a little scarecrow on a stick. It would look so cute, and you tie a little bow to the handle. Then it would give color and scent to the corner. What beautiful Fall things. I am going to be posting what I am giving away for my 100th post drawing this evening, so you may want to be watching. The give away will be this Friday evening and the winner announced in my Pink Saturday post. There are some precious items in this give away. All everyone has to do is go to my Thursday Sept 3rd post, titled: Calling All Sister Bloggers - Ideas Anyone It's A Giveaway, and make a comment. You can go post a comment any time, but watch tonight for my post and you can see what the give away is. Talk to you soon. Country hugs sweetie, Sherry

I wish you lived closer, because I'd give you tons of pinecones off the pine trees so abundant here! And that would look so great in that bucket! I love your decoupaged bucket and your precious gate!

Oh wow Elyse! What a sweet post! Thankyou for mentioning me ;) that give-away introduced me to you too and made blogging that much nicer! Plus not only did I meet such a good friend, but I think of you anytime I admire my gorgeous shutters too!

I'm just like you on the decorations for fall also, I let the house fill more with the sights and scents of fall more so than decorations ... Nothing says fall more to me than an apple pie in the oven, a pot toast on the stove, and leaving the fallen leaves on my front step ;)

I'm enjoying my time a little more now with the kids in school, and it gives me a chance to bake up things during the day to surprise them too ;) now I just have to get a little more ahead on some chores I held off and then I'm expecting a little smooth sailing to enjoy it all lol! Have a great week sweetie! Btw, that dish looks fab with the apples in it ;)!!

Yep here too the leaves are falling and the colors are changing. I love the warm colors of fall too. Wouldn't you put that bucket outside for a few (rainy) days? It looks less shiny and older when you do that, but you might like the new look, it was just a tip. Have a great day decorating!

It really does look like Fall has arrived at your home. The leaves have been falling at our house for the last couple of weeks and the dogwoods are already red. I guess that means an early Fall. Egads! Hope it doesn't mean a really cold winter. Would love to have you visit. ~ Miles of Smiles ` Lynn

Fantastic! I've been wandering round the house in search of inspiration too (and round some Vide Greniers, of course...) I'm going for red, white and blue this autumn, for no logical reason except that I'm behind the times! The colours are patriotic for any of my countries, but I know they're usually used in summer... Who cares - I am happy!

You know, I don't go over the top with decorating either, but to me, even putting out some little pumpkin decorations and candles gets me all excited for fall!! When you're used to looking at the same 4 walls, any little change of color is fun ~ ♥

I clicked over to your blog to read your review of House and Home after writing mine for the TLC tour, and this post was so inspiring to me. Love your pictures, and I think I'll have to head to the farmer's market this weekend to get some decorating supplies of my own!

We have several small trees here that have started turning, also. It is time to get out the fall. I am resolved to surface from the computer on Friday and do just that. I think the cookie cutter idea is great. I'm going to get them out right now!

Thanks for the inspiration. Must keep moving. It's chilly here now!
