overdue + unfinished = fabulous
When people describe a book they are passionate about, they'll always say, "I couldn't put it down!" However, I have come to the conclusion that
if a home decor book or magazine is truly great, you will put it down so that you can try things immediately!
I am always reserving stacks of decor and craft books from the library and just realized that the really great ones get returned without ever being finished for the reason mentioned above. This is the case with the currently overdue thriftychic. Each time I pick it up and begin to leaf through, inspiration hits, the book gets put down and I begin to rummage and rearrange!
Great ideas such as a trellis-turned-organizer. Cheap and charming!
Draped and clipped muslin as a curtain. Perfect for us no-sew types.
Fairy lights to add a warm glow.
Painted stairs (top) which I am considering for my own home for the grungy carpet replacement project that keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the list.
A bench with pillows beneath a window. So beachy!
And again, this GASP-inducing image that prompted me to finally decide to go for it and order my first meter of ...
Cath Kidston fabric to be used in the kitchen/dining area someway, somehow.
And on the top of tomorrow's to-do list: return this overdue, unfinished and fabulous book to the library. (I'd renew it but it's already on-hold)

Wow, I don't know if I want to get that book! I'll never get any laundry done. Great ideas, Elyse, and I soooo understand the dilemma: relax with a good book (decorating book) OR get busy on a new-found idea! Glad you like bringing windows indoors. You should see the collection of walls that have windows in my house! Fifi's photos don't begin to show them all. Deets will be wonderful when you know!
Wow! What a great magazine. I love all those ideas! Gotta find it soon.
Oh, you know what, I've been guilty of keeping really good library books past their due dates :) : :) This looks like a really cute book and I LOVE that really simple muslin curtain. I've been wanting to do something like that for the kitchen window!!! Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)
Oh that is a lovely book! I love that you are a no-sew type too :-) I can see why you adore the Cath Kidston table cloth/fabric - you have an eye for gorgeous things!

Hi Elyse
I too have placed a CK order, the anticipation of that parcel arriving is half the fun, skip the guilt, it was the 70% off sale!
Love your blog and was thrilled to hear from you!

So many very cute and doeable ideas. That bench under the window reminds me of a book that was simply inspiring because of it's title and concept. (The, actual, pictures and ideas weren't really THAT grand for me, personally.) The book was "The Nook Book". Don't we just love 'nooks', though? They encouraged us to find nooks wherever - even, under windows. That's when I decided that I wanted my whole house to feel like a homey nook. Your home seems to be of a similar bent. =]
Inspiration from these books, though....I don't know why but, they always make me want to do the laundry. (?????!!!)
I love that kitchen, too! =]

G.A.S.P. Gorgeousness.
Funny thing. Last week I was thinking of making a garden trellis inspiration board. :)
I'm adding this book to my must reads. Thanks for the beautiful inspiration, Elyse!
Hugs,
Zuzu
Im definitely going to need to have a peek at that book. I like how the images are simple and fresh. Im so over all the fussy stuff!
What an inspiring book...all the photos make me want to start "something." Do show how the fabric ends up in your "design plan?" I'm going to look for the book on Amazon??? Now, get back to the library and check-out another good book..haha.
Don't you just hate it when you can't renew a book anymore?! :) Though I will say the flipside of that is the feeling of excitement when I receive an email from my library that a book I requested is finally in. (Yes, I'm a nerd!)
I'm so glad you highlighted this book! I won a copy of it from Stacey at A Sort of Fairytale back in December and I *love* it. So many wonderful ideas.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the CK Spray Flowers fabric...
Take care,
Erin
Elyse, I NEED this book!!!! If you love it I know I will!!!!

Hi Elyse,
I hear you, I am the same way. There are some books that so speak to my heart. That fabric is gorgeous. You introduced me to Cath Kidston and I am forever thinking of you when I see anything with that design on it. Now I am going to put that book on the list of books I want to take out at the library.
