preserving summer

Still tinkering with mason jars. This time I am using them to hold sand from nearby beaches.

I find differences in the sand from beach-to-beach to be visually interesting.

I have labeled each bottle or jar in one way ...

or another.

I display my small collection on a shelf in the beachy Blue Mesa-painted bathroom.

Among other things, you'll find my collection of sea glass ...

and now, two more jars: one for cotton and one for swabs.

The print on these is a very pale blue. Probably difficult to see online (maybe click-to-enlarge?).

A very manageable project during busy-summertime.

Look for more fun with jars from me in the October issue of
Romantic Homes in the we love / make it section. {I am thrilled!}

Just weeks of summer left ... enjoy!

As always, simply lovely, Elyse! When we were on a trip to Dubai, my son brought home sand from there in a small water bottle -- let me tell you, that caused some hullabaloo in customs. :) We got it through. I printed out a picture of him in the desert sand (which is very dark) labeled it with date and place) and then adhered that to the front a recycled jar. He says he would like to collect sand from different areas -- a Japanese friend of our's does just that, and the colors, textures are so different (definitely not much white sand over here). Hope you have a fantastic Friday! Romantic Homes actually does, sometimes, make its way to Kuwait, so I'll be look for the October issue (sometime in November :/ -- Tammy

OH MY GOSH! You are just the "being published" queen!
Congratulations! How awesome is that?
The beach I just took my AZ friends too didn't have any sand. We had a super high tide and it all got washed away. Now the county and city are up in arms as to who should "resand the beach". LOL.
Only in Southern California.
:) Have a great weekend! karen

Elyse I love what you did with your jars. Sand was the one thing I forgot to bring back with me from my vacation...would have looked pretty with sea shells on top...in a vintage jar of course.

Elyse,
I just discovered you this evening, and am happy to meet you! I love what you do (it is my taste), and love your blog. You have really inspired me with the chair you painted and placed decals on. I have several which need restoring, and I wanted to do something different with them; you have given me some great ideas! Thank you for sharing.

What a charming idea to capture and preserve some beach memories! We're going to Rehoboth Beach Delaware in September and I will have to bring some sand home with me....and not just in my shoes! I will, of course, be watching for your latest article in Romantic Homes. I've been catching up on posts...you are my aqua paint idol!! (Thanks for your warm words of encouragement!)
