post 101! an unfussy tablescape
This is my 101st post! How can that be? Perhaps I lost track because it has been so busy around here. Last week my guys all took turns being sick. In between keeping everyone comfy and keeping the house in a decent state, I decided to fit-in a little down time, oddly enough, by playing around with a tablescape. I say "oddly enough" because I must have wiped-down the dining room table a million times over a few days but what did I choose to do while the boys watched a movie? Set the table! Last week was my first Tablescape Thursday and I thought it was so enjoyable.
As you can see my "dining room" is small and so I keep things very casual and simple.
And even though I love details, I don't care if say, the metal of my flatware matches the trim of my dishes or not.
I am using a valance as a table runner. For a quick centerpiece, I grabbed a potted plant from outside.
The floral patterned place setting is a lovely mis-match of pieces inherited from my Nana and my husband's great-grandmother.
(My boys drank water from the glasses pictured that night at dinner. They felt very dignified!)
Small clippings in bottles grouped together on a cake plate complete the "unfussification" of my tablescape. How about a simple champagne brunch?
For more tablescape fun, please visit Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. It really is fun!
This was my original inspiration photo for the dining room. As soon as we bought our house, I placed an order with Pottery Barn: different table but I have the chairs, chair pads, valances and etagère.
This is how the dining room looked after we settled in. As you can see I have painted the walls (and went with mint instead of blue), removed the border, painted the top of the sidebar and changed all of the hardware. I am currently using different valances, too. Just thought this would be fun to share! Thanks for indulging me!
Oh, and one more thing ... there is the most beautiful giveaway going on right now at Vintage Bella Studio. You will not want to miss this!

Elyse, your table~scape is pretty and sweet...i love everything about it!!!
How absolutely beautiful Elyse, you've inspired me to do something with mine, thanks for sharing and congrats on you 101st post! Mines coming up shortly.
Your dining room is very sweet and cottagey. Love the mint green walls...that's such a pretty, soothing color.
Your table setting is beautiful...I love your china! And the silverware looks lovely tied with a bow...I'll have to swipe that idea. *wink*
Hello!! OK.. I have two questions to answer for you. The first one is about the salsa. I use a few fresh...cooked...
tomatoes plus canned because I think it makes my salsa taste a little fresher. The other one is about my time I lived in Warwick. I got married...right out of college...to a med school student. After medical school, he matched at Brown Univ. for his residency. We were so excited!! We lived in Warwick during that time. Unfortunately, our marriage did not last. I think he is practicing medicine in Chicago now. Anyhoo... I returned from R.I. to Tulsa (completely heart broken), where my sister lived. My parents were also here in Oklahoma. I have been here ever since. I met Mark..and the rest is history. Everything worked out. It was a hard time for me, but I learned a lot. In the process, I fell in love with New England. Everyone has a story....right? Hugs... Leslie
I loved your setting ! Those linens are to die for......
Congrats on your 101st post !

This looks so sweet. That china is lovely, and the centerpiece container is gorgeous! I enjoyed seeing your inspiration picture for your dining room. I like the way your room turned out better than the inspiration pic! laurie
Thank you for your sweet comments on my boring tablescape. LOL. But you know - it was all worth while, because Justin and I had SUCH a GOOD evening! And you look for those opportunities when they get to this age. They are so busy, and their agenda is not your agenda, and . . . you just have to learn to let go. So to sneak in a few moments of comfort and just being "friends" was totally great. I love him so. And I know he loves me. He has our "values". He is an awesome kid.
Thanks again. Your table scape was just perfect.
Isn't it fun?
NEXT time - I'm going to try something FANCY!!!
LOL. Have a good weekend!
Your dining room is lovely! I love the mixing and matching too! It's almost symbolic how the pieces of one family fit together with the pieces of another family. Of course the valance is the matchmaker ;-)
Have a nice day!
Cotton candy, light and airy, non fussy pretty! LOVE it!
Have a good rest of the week!

Elyse, I love your sweet blog. And I love this tablescape! Isn't this so much fun? I didn't think I'd love it as much as I obviously do, as I can barely cook! I love your delicate details (which you're known for anyway), and my dining room is tiny. So I know just what you mean there. Please come back and do this again. I look forward to seeing another one!
Brenda
