gathering ideas and chairs
I was smitten when I first saw these miniature wire chairs in my Pottery Barn catalog but they sell as a set and I only wanted one. There is so much that I like in the new PB catalog right now that recently I visited the store to see everything in-person and happily found the chairs for sale individually.
At first I placed a potted plant on the little ice cream parlor-style chair and had it in the living room but somehow it found its way upstairs to my bedroom to display jewelry in a teacup. {Isn't that always the way? LOL}
I am actually in the process of gearing-up to paint this room and have been gathering ideas. Of course my inspiration always springs from a magazine photo that makes me GASP. That's how I know ... my heart races and I think: that's it!
I love the feel of the room shown above. My room won't be quite the same but I like the wall color, faded red florals, and bistro chair. This room also has the typical slanted upstairs walls of a Cape Cod style home, just like mine.
I am thinking about clear glass hardware on the furniture, which I will keep finished as-is. What do you think?
I found this metal bistro chair at Target on sale for $30.
Weather-permitting, I may begin priming next weekend. The paint front-runner is Benjamin Moore's Navajo White. I think the off-white will look very beachy on the planked (?) ceilings and really brighten up the room.
I really don't enjoy painting but it sure makes a huge impact. I can't remember from which magazine I actually tore this page. Anyone know?
[I still need to write an update post on the boys' room. I'll save that for another time so this one doesn't go on too long!]
Happy weekend

I really like the inspiration look, can't wait to see how yours turns out! Good luck
Lovely! I know you will love it. I like the glass knobs and say go for it!! I cannot wait to see it all. I have a few chairs now too! But Tables are over running my house! And when my mom leaves I won't have a good computer table! YIKES!
Hugs, Lisa
Can't wait to see the transformation. I love painting it always give a nice clean fresh feeling. Enjoy
Very cute...I love Navajo white.
I did my whole house except for a few rooms in it...it is very neutral and it really makes the white trim around my windows and doors~pop!
ooooh, that little wire chair is precious! Happy you found just one like you wanted. Love that bedroom, can't wait to see it all finished. Have a blessed day dear Elyse!
Elyse- how fun that you were able to find a little chair! Love the teacup and saucer sitting on it!
I have had several friends use Navajo white and it is a delightful color! My that is going to so cheer up that already pretty room! I think clear knobs would be great on your dresser. I found some on Ebay a few years back for over 1/2 less than what you usually see them going for- I think less then 2.00 each. You might check -
Have a wonderful weekend!

I love all your ideas, as usual! you must do a big reveal and show off your "new" room. have a great weekend.
You have a lovely inspiration picture to work with! That is amazing that you found the identical chair, and all it needs is some paint! I love clear glass knobs and think they will look really pretty against the light wood.
Get crackin girlfriend....
Can't wait to see...
Love your inspiration!

that is a gorgeous room!
Hi, Elyse,
I love that sweet little chair that you purchased. It looks wonderful with the cup and your jewelry. I find I buy things and think I will place them in a certain place and then change my mind several times until I find just the right spot. I think your bedroom will look very airy and light and pretty with the new paint color. I hope you have a happy weekend, sweet friend! Vicki
I am attracted to little chairs too...those wire ones are darling!
it's simple: i LOVE you blog! (:
♥
Love the new chairs! Can't wait to see your bedroom makeover...sounds pretty.
I love your slanted wall...I only have plain ol' straight walls.
those chairs are two darn cute.
love what you did with yours.
i like all your ideas for your bed room.
i think i need to grow you some ruffled antique rose pansies this summer.
i love how you were afraid to make your post too long.
i know you hate them long posts!
ps i would hit my head all the time in a slanted room, though it looks cool.
also, i thought you would have more pillows. ;-)
Your ideas are charming. Your room will look so lovely when it's done.
I think your furniture is beautiful!
I just think that whatever your racing heart tells you is the right thing---everything you do is just perfectly beautiful, so I would definitely trust your instincts!
All your inspiration photos are beautiful--can't wait to see how it turns out! Oh, and I LOVE the clear-glass hardware look--perfect!
Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!
ohh love make overs!
cant wait to see it!!
Anything you do will be fabulous! I wish I had everything has streamlined as you. No matter how much I organize or weed things out, I still have a lot of stuff hanging around. I can't seem to live without it. You would probably grab a roll of wire and make your own little bistro chairs based on the one you bought. Have a fabulous weekend. Blessings, Tammy
Great ideas Elyse and I love the miniature chairs, but we foreigners don't even have access to the sight of PB, how odd is that?! Well I guess we better spend our money elsewhere...have a great weekend!
The room idea is stunning. really love the off white with faded florals. Cant wait to see your finished project. Good Luck. x
What sweet little chairs! :) I will have to check out the PB here... Your room is going to look beautiful! Glass knobs will look great- I think I saw some at Target when I was looking to get some.
I love those chairs. I would love to have a larger version of them for my patio.

Aren't you going to have fun.
Brave I say--painting is such a daunting task. What color, taping things off priming etc. Too bad we can't wave our hands and it is done!
Have fun.
Melinda
Oh I adore those sweet chairs...I so want one!!! ADORABLE!
Your room will look amazing when it is all done...have fun. Have a wonderful weekend. xoxoxo
I love those chairs Elyse, what a find. It's funny how I can walk into a Pottery Barn store and not see the same things as someone else. I can't wait to see your re do. I hope you have a great week and thankyou so much for stopping by, Char
P.S. Congratulations on your blog post in the Romantic Homes. I loved it.
Oh Elyse,
I love how you share your vision with us. You are wonderful at this. I can't wait to see what you do. I told my mom about you being featured in Romantic Home magazine. I gave her a few of your lovely clothespins for her frig. She said to say Congratulations. She is 84 years old and loves pink, roses and pretty things.
Karen
Way to go Elyse, 200 posts. You go girl.
Love the Bistro chair. Happy Saturday.
xo Cathy
So cute, how you've displayed your chair! And that red bistro chair would look great as a display area also. Perhaps a pot of ivy trailing down?
Brenda
Oh what a fun post Elyse!! I love Pottery Barn too and just did a post showing some pics a couple weeks ago! I love the new catalogs too, that ice cream chair is too cute for words!
I am so excited for you to be redoing your bedroom! Because I HATE mine, lol! I can hardly stand to go in it, so sad! I love the faded reds and the wall color you chose! And the chair you found at Target is perfect!! I cant wait to see it done!
Have fun!
Big Hugs,
Amy
Beautiful inspiration. I have used navajo white and was very pleased with it. I prefer benjamin moore and sherwin williams paints and colors.
I once lived in an old cape cod style home and I found a very faded, petite floral wallpaper and just covered the slanted portion of the ceiling with it. I was very pleased with it and received many compliments.
I LOVE your etsy shop!
Deborah
I love all your ideas. Our entire house exterior is BM Nav, White - it's a great, rich color.
I can't wait to see your finished room!
You have go-or-geous ideas, Elyse! I don't know where the page came from, but it is definitely GASP-quality.
Enjoy your weekend!

Elyse, Happy 200th Post! I love the sweet inspiration room. I'm always so inspired by the decorating mag. pictures. I'm no stager, but I find myself fussing with details and having fun pulling things together. When I dread painting, I call my best friend Trisha, who is glad to crew for me.
Enjoy!
Sherry
Those chairs are the sweetest..so delicate. Your inspiration pictures are very pretty but I'm sure whatever you decide to do will be inspirational to all of us! You have such a good eye with colors and patterns..can't wait to see the end result. Sometimes the planning is as much fun as the doing! I love your style!
Glass knobs will be super on that dresser.
Have fun dreaming!

What a darling little chair...and that room is pretty swell too! Happy Spring!
Love your inspiration photo...bedding, bistro chair, serving tray...so beautiful! And thanks for stopping by, glad to have found your blog!
I don't like painting, either - which might be why I keep avoiding it even though my walls desperately need it. Love your little chairs from Pottery Barn! They are so cute! I know your room will look beautiful - also - I love glass knobs.

Elyse, that wee chair is the cutest thing...i love your inspiration room...i can't wait to see your interpretation...
Your inspiration room is gorgeous! I can't wait to see what you do in your room. You have such beautiful taste I'm sure it will be wonderful. I'm still looking for my cottage. I thought I found it Saturday but it turns out someone beat me to it with their application. I will have second choice if by chance they don't qualify. It's such fun looking and I can hardly wait to cross the threshold so I can start decorating my own little house. ♥
Firstly congrats on your 200th post and I love that red chair!
Gorgeous, I love the bedroom, it looks so restful. Wish I could get that look but there is always something in the room that doesn't quite fit when I try it. Trouble is, I have too many treasured pieces that I don't want to part with. Wishing you and yours a happy Easter Elyse, Eli x
Hello Elyse,
I didn't think were that small. Though I should have a clue with the candles :-)
I'll be looking forward to your bedroom project. Love the "feel" of the inspiration photo you have. That'll be exciting!

Hi Elyse,

Navajo white is the standard color all new homes are painted out here in Arizona....pretty funny!
Hugs,
Meri
Adorable little chairs! It makes for a sweet little vignette! Your ideas for your new room are beautiful. Love the cape cod look! Have fun...cant wait to see how it all comes together. ;) XO,Jenn
Elyce, I am green with envy over Pottery Barn :) How I love their styling! I've discovered their website, but we have NOTHING that I know of here in Australia that even comes close. Love all your clippings, and can't wait to see your version.
Thanks Sweetie for letting me share you and your beautiful work on today's Tuesday Tour! Big Hugs!! ♥
It is so funny that the Sunshine Day song was stuck in your head all day from my blog. I hope that this comment won't put it back in- I guess there could be worse songs...I was even trying to do some of the dance moves for my Mom and Sis. I am sure that it was very inspiring. LOL
Have a Sunshiny Day,
Joyce
Elyse the room is going to wonderful!!! I painted every room in my house a color when I first moved in... it was the first time I did'nt live in an apartment. Then about 3 years later... I painted them all back to white!!!! (or a shade of) I agree, it can be very calm and soothing when done right. I love the glass knob idea too.

Hi! This is my first time visiting your blog (I am very new to blogging) and can't tell you how much I enjoyed it. As I wrote to Betty Jo, we have a friend in common, Marilee, who lives right down the street from us at Wayne's Antiques in Brewster. We also have Karen's Garden Cottage Antiques further down 6A, towards Orleans) in Brewster. We'd love to meet you some time...Have Marilee come and bring you by!
Thanks again for the visit, Karen
Wonderful ideas! The little chair is so sweet! But what I love the most...is the sweet wedding picture of you aand your DH! Precious!
Love,
Maryjane

oh, i love the teacup on the chair!
Wow. You get a lot of feedback. I can't find that red chair at Target but I want one! And I agree that I would love a full size version of the little ones you got at PB. I am obsessed with metal garden furniture. I would paint your dresser a color instead of leaving it unpainted with your clear knobs. I think it would pop more painted and would add more flair to your bedroom.
Luv your ideas and the way your inspiration came to you and you developed it, I too have a backyard but no patio or cover but we can still make little seating areas, cute that you used an old skirt, inside out for a tablecover. I am a painter, would love it if I had customers with your vision and we could make sweet, comfy, pretty rooms! Enjoyed your blog so much, Thank you!, Love, Linda, Selective Residential Services lwlolm.young@gmail.com
