the couch stays

Thanks for all the lovely ideas for the Girlie Office! I came to the following conclusions:
- I want to keep the couch
- I need storage
- I like working at a table
That's me... pondering... Photo credit: Marisa Bettencourt
This morning I headed to Ikea to get ideas and walked away with this thought after seeing two KALLAX shelving units back-to-back on display:

Buy two white (or pink?) shelving units and position as shown above to create not only ample storage for books, magazines and craft items, but a sturdy work area. Unify the pieces by covering the top or entire exterior with oilcloth fabric. Perhaps add this pink SNILLE swivel chair to skooch around in.

I'm not always big on bird and butterfly motifs but keep coming back to the just-above pattern from Dotty Brown. It's the roses! They are so lovely and I'm a big fan of tone-on-tone and like the varying shades of pinks.

Keeping it real, peeps!
So what's not making the cut? I think the coffee table is going to take up residence in the basement. My plan is to (1) remove all furnishings; (2) position the couch and the shelving-as-tables and see whatever else fits in comfortably. The painted chair will stay. The wall color will stay. The curtains and chandelier will stay.

More pretty oilcloth considerations all from Dotty Brown. {Please ship to the U.S.!}

Which oilcloth pattern do you like best? I'm already changing my mind from A to E. Stay tuned!

Thank you for visiting!

I like "a" but I am a birdie girl. The roses look like the roses on my Cathe Kidson iphone cover. Happy decorating!

I'm in the process of re doing my bedroom and craft room. I can only work on them for so long and then I have to stop and see how it feels for a couple days before continuing.

I'm liking oilcloth A the best and I'm not a decorate with birds person either.

Have fun!

Lovely ideas. I made a crafting table that you might be able to get some ideas from. It has tons of room, it's my desk, and work area.

Hard choice for sure. I love A because I am a bird person (this is so like my oilcloth Cath tote pattern) but they are all cute.
You will love the KALLAX units. I had the large (4x4) Expedit/KALLAX unit in my craft room and also one of the 2x4 cubby units horizontally. The big one is now in my husband's study and I am looking to buy two of the KALLAX 2x4s in white in additon to two Alex units (6 drawers each) for storage. The IKEA pieces hold up great I think.
Thanks for the field trip to Dotty's....everything is so cute there. Why don't we have companies like that here I wonder? {{sigh}} I love the idea of using oilcloth.
Can't wait to see what you decide.
I'm sure you have already done a search in PINTEREST for KALLAX, Expedit or IKEA craft room. Lots of ideas abound there.

you might consider actually putting a top over those 2 units. with a bit of over lay on one side so that you can get you chair in tight without banging your knees.
Love the couch staying ... I like the idea of building cabinets (not just shelves) over the couch for more storage...

You must get that chair and my choice is B...I like that it has more yellow to compliment your walls!
