sweet dreams

It's been just over a year since I painted the bedroom but lately I am thinking it's time to do a bit more feathering. Just a bit. To reignite ideas, I revisited The Ultimate Inspiration Photo (below).

Ah, page 36 of Cottage Style (Country Collectibles #56). I like the idea of placing short runners over each night table to lighten and brighten, and plan to finally buy a pair of (inexpensive) skinny lamps like the one shown (Hello, Ikea!).

Feeling ready to commit to using the coveted piece of fabric on my bed. Plus another pillow or two? {Thank you, Shellie!!!}

Inspired by the red number 2 hanging from the trunk, I'm thinking of painting a rustic sign that says something like Cottage for Rent or Roses for Sale and hanging it beneath the yardlong print of roses. {Doesn't this look like the same room as The UIP?}

With a little tinkering (replace white hardware, paint a bit) this short rack has possibilities.

Does anyone remember HGTV's Decorating Cents with Joan Steffend? Gee, I loved that show. Even the awful makeovers provided useful ideas. Anyway ...

As always, ideas are welcome, my creative, talented and brilliant friends!

Elyse,

I loved Decorating cents too! She did have a few "I can't believe she thinks this is great" episodes but her ideas were great and I love the tiny budget spent!

Looking forward to seeing your fluffing!! I finally got my room done- hope you will take a peek! Well not done- I am stripping the doors right now but have a few pics up at least!

Oh I so loved Joan Steffend and Decorating Cents! I don't know why they took it off. There were a couple of designers that I would chase away from my house with a shotgun, but other than that they did a nice job. It was the first decorating show I fell in love with on HGTV. Thanks for the reminder!

I do remember decorating cents! I loved to watch that show! Thanks for the memory ;). I added a huge pop of color in my living room that I will be sharing on my blog. It's just what I needed. I love when you can make a makeover, just by adding a bit here and there. I like your idea of signage. In one of my cottage books they have a sign hanging between two twin beds. Looks adorable. Can't wait to see! ;)Alyssa of Boston Bee

I am so glad to see you here, Elyse. I kept losing this post today on Google Reader (and a number of other people's who have blogger. I love what you did with this sweet room and I just adored Joan Steffend. She just came out with a book that is called something like,
"She Sparkled." I skimmed it in a store and it was very poignant and delightful.

Elyse, you need to be the one doling out advice, not asking. Your ideas are always fabulous and you always manage to see them through even if it takes a bit of mulling over. My problem is always the action part as it seems a greater mess is created in the process and that's the part I don't like. :/

We don't get HGTV here so when we would go to the States in the summer, I would stay up all nite long watching all those shows. We used to get reruns here of Rachel Ashwell's show -- really loved that one too.

Have a great weekend. Tammy :)

Decorating Cents was the very first show I ever saw when my cable company finally got HGTV. I was hooked! Life hasn't been the same since. I look forward to seeing your finished bedroom. Finishing a room, I wonder what that would feel like...

What happened to that show? It was one of my favorites and all of the sudden it was gone, grrrr. I love your room and I think a "Cottage for Rent" sign would be perfect.

I think you need more pillows! Nothing makes a bed more cozy looking than lots of pillows!
USE THE FABRIC! Just go for it!

Elyse, I loved that show, when I first got into DIY, she was my inspiration. I think you could certainly fluff the room, you have a long way to go before you go over the top. Oh, using the good (Coveted) fabric, that is always tough isn't it...Hate to use the good stuff! Can't wait to see it all done!

Scrap for Joy said...

Your bedroom looks great but I think you should fluff all you want...you always end up with a look we all drool over! Your whole house is cozy and inviting.
Joan Steffend. Looks like no one knows what happened to her...maybe we should have a posse try to find her. Her show was one of my favorites...she was clever and did so much of the work herself...even with a cast on at one point!
Now if I could have anyone make over my house (with money being no object of course) I would want Sarah Richardson or Candice Olson.
Have fun with your fluffing!

What a gorgeous bedroom! And I mean yours, by the way. [sigh] I've been going through my tiny apartment trying to find ways to feather it a bit too. I'm sure you will find just the right touches and I can't wait to see what they look like!

i love all the pops of red in your bedroom! the inspiration photo = swoon. Do you remember on Decorating Cents, when Joan would always go to that vintage shop that guy owned and he would show how he turned junk into furniture and accessories? that was a fun show...some crazy decor ideas sometimes though ;)

I so miss that show! Loved Joan!!!!

Your room is so cute! I know that whatever you do will just make it charming. Have you ever thought about painting the chests white? I think that the small one would be really cute at the foot of your bed - and you could hang the sign on a knob, like on the basket. Then you could stack blankets on the top of the chest, too.

I LOVE the inspiration room, too. I have the same check pillow in the center.

Have a blast!!!!

Hmmm, I've missed a few posts, actually, and I'm realizing that I missed the ones from when my mom and dad were out and we went to NYC. Ah Ha!

I'm redoing my bedroom, too. It's kind of fun because I've been blogging just long enough, now, that when a fellow blogger says, "do you remember when I...," it turns out that I do remember when....

Have fun!
