sweet idea

All of a sudden I was craving yellow and needed to make something using the color of daffodils.

I recalled feeling like this before, checked my blog archives and sure enough it was the same time last year that I wrote a post called craving yellow. I find it very cool how our blogs become diaries of our creativity.

Never one to discard a container, especially bottles as sweet as these from honey, it was time to take these little bears out of hibernation to play. First, I removed their stubborn labels which required soaking in warm soapy water followed by some Goo Gone. [I would actually prefer to use something less toxic. Any suggestions?]

I decided to stick to a palette of pale pinks and yellows when dressing up the little bears with ribbons, buttons, forget-me-nots and tags.

I filled them with a strand of pearls, yellow beads, lemon candies and ribbon in sunny shades.

Sweet for display, fun as a party favor, or inspired gift packaging for your honey bunch.

  2. How precious! I've never liked throwing those little honey bears away and now you've given me wonderful ideas for them. While looking at yours I had an idea of my own (very unusual occurance for me :), wouldn't they make a pretty flower vase? Just remove the cap, add water and happy daffodils. Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. Those are SOOO darned cute, Elyse. I love them..and I am so sorry now that I have thrown my own away. My granddaughters would have loved thes.

As far as getting the glue off- I always use Spray & Wash- or one of those pre-wash treatments. You take the paper part of first with soapy water...squirt the stuff on and let it sit for several minutes and it should scrape right off very easily - and then you can hit the stubborn spots again if you need to. This also takes those old rubber things off the bottom of bath tubs. xxoo Diana

  5. I think we all start craving a little yellow at this time of the year due to a lack of sun. Winter months are so dreary here in the midwest...oh wait - I see Mr. Sunshine trying to peek his head out through the clouds - hooray!

  6. Those are too cute! I use veggie oil to get off stickies and then wash with soap and water. Sometimes you have to soak the label in warm water first then take off the sticky residue with veggie oil then wash.

  15. So adorable! I think I saw Jenn at Sweet eye candy creations use bottles like this for a little girls birthday party... I could be wrong, I have baby brain, but I think I saw her do something with them.

  16. So cute!

I use vinegar and a soft scrub pad to get labels off. It works pretty well at disolving the glue. Just add it to the warm water when you soak and use the scrub pad to gently wipe off the remaining gunk. (bonus: it makes glass items look super sparkly!)

  17. They look so good... as for lables. i use orange oil as it penetrates the glue and smells great.

  23. Elyse these are adorable! I am going to have to make up some cute tags like that when I hopefully get honey this year to fill up some cute bear bottles!!

I use peanut butter to get off sticky residue! Just let it sit for a minute or two then rub aggressively - it works all the time for me!

  26. These are adorable!!! As far as getting sticky stuff off of bottles...I don 't use Goo Gone. I don't like the smell. I just use simple olive oil or any other cooking oil, a cloth to help scrub and some elbow grease. It works great for me :) :) Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

  30. Hi Elyse!
I loved your Honey bottles. So sweet and they came out really lovely.

So sorry I hadn't visited you in such a long time. I hadn't participated in a Pink Saturday for ages until this past December but I had been thinking about you and some of the other wonderful ladies that I met through PS.

I just read Sherry from Alabama's idea and I might use that one since I have two bottles underneath my kitchen sink! I can't throw them away either...lol!

  32. Try peanut butter next time. Take a gob and just rub it around. If the goo starts to ball up and dissolve, you know that peanut butter works on that glue.

  35. I always crave yellows at this time of year too! I love these bears of yours so much. My Dad gave my daughter a honey bear shortly before he passed away, and I've kept the empty bottle ever since. That's almost 20 years ago! Now I know what I can do to make it cute, and have it sitting out to enjoy instead of stuffed in the cupboard. Thanks so much, and I love your blog!

  37. Hi Elyse,
What a sweet idea...I love it..I too love saving jars and containers to reuse and repurpose. I just did a post on some glass jars I repurposed...I have always wanted a honey bear bottle. The honey we get always comes in these huge bottles...we use it a lot so we get ours from Costco :-P I think next time I'll pick one of these cute bear ones just cause they're so darn cute. Have a wonderful day.

    Hugs and Kisses,
    ♥Ana

  40. This is such a cute way of storing things. Elyse, it's snowing again tonight. I saw bunches of daffodils in the supermarket and sighed. Years ago I went to London in February and their daffodils were blooming.

Well, is it any wonder you are craving yellow?

    This is the cutest!

  45. Just came in for my regular dose of 'pretty'. and saw the bear bottles. Somewhere I have a glass peanut butter jar that is in the shape of a koala bear, must go look for it. I've always used eucalyptus oil on sticky labels to get the glue off, but be careful as it can also lift paint but on glass jars it should be fine.
