making plans for martha

About a month or so ago while blog-hopping, I read about a woman who attended a taping of The Martha Stewart Show in New York City. It sounded like so much fun that I requested tickets and to my surprise, received a confirmation email just weeks later.

My ticket confirmation says:
Martha LOVES when our audience wears bright colors & dresses to impress. The camera picks up bright colors best, so please plan your outfit accordingly.

DO NOT WEAR:
Black, gray, tan or any muted colors, T-shirts, prints, logos, hats, or sleeveless tops.

Um ... all of my clothes are muted colors! But in the name of fun and Martha, I went shopping today on a quest for bright colors. The closest I came was this peachy-pink dress.

I wanted something fun and a little over-the-top for NYC but am still not sure about it yet. Tights, leggings or jeans? Boots or flats? Cardigan or no cardigan? Or something muted but pretty that I already have? (Hubby gave the ruffled dress pictured above a sensitively put thumbs-down and my youngest thought it was an elf costume -- and it could be!) Anyway ...

My BFF and I are very excited and plan to stop for sweets ...

followed by treats at Martha's "favorite store in all the world" before heading home (about a 3-hour trip).

I promise to pack my camera and share my adventures by the weekend.

  1. What fun you'll have Elyse! Tinsel Trading is an awesome store..love the Wendy Addison stuff. If you have time stop in at M&J Trimming at 1008 6th Ave. The first time I went there I couldn't even buy anything because I was so overwhelmed...lots of tinkering supplies there. It's between 37th and 38th and Tinsel is on 37th. That whole area is filled with trim and bead places...sensory overload for sure. Can't wait to hear about your adventure! Have fun!

  23. Elyse-Have fun. The reason they don't like pastels is because the camera tends to "blur" them a bit...and light blue causes the camera to do REALLY weird things. If you want to be SEEN on TV you will notice that they always pan to people wearing bright colors. ps...Did ya know I was a minor little on-air personality back in the mid 70's? lol

That being said-just so you know- the brighter dressed people get to sit closest to the front. They put those in the lighter colors and sleevless outfits towards the very back because they don't "show" as well. And that's just the little bit I know about that~;>)

I hope you have a ball! I know you will~And...I hope you have a bit of time to shop (even window shopping) because there is nothing in the world like NYC...make sure you walk 5th Avenue!!! Hugs- Diana

  26. Interesting, no sleeveless tops? Why I wonder? They worry about hurricane force winds from the over-40 bat wing arms clapping? ;)

Good for you! Have a wonderful time!

  29. Oh Elyse, fun, fun, fun! Enjoy every moment. I love your dress. It is so you, I think! What do husbands and kids know about clothes anyways!!!! It may not be a bright color, but your smile will definitely brighten up the room. ;)

I love your bazaar treasures, too. I was to have a table at a bazaar the end of November, but I just never feel like I have enough time to prepare or that I can actually make anything that anyone would want.

Wishing you all the best. :) Tammy

  41. Hi Elyse,
I have been to the show lot's of times ~ don't worry too much about the clothing. I will tell you that everytime I wear bright colors ~ they seat me in the first or second row! I even went to Nate's Show a few weeks ago and the same thing happen. Anywhere you sit is a good seat however ~ Martha's show treats her guest awesome. Her set is beautiful. Have a great time and don't forget to visit Bryant Park on 42nd near Grand Central ~ peaceful sweet place to sit and take a load off! Also City Quilter is right near the show!

I am not sure if I told you there is a giveaway on my blog, jewelry designed by Robin Thomas (A Nest with a View) and myself. No strings attached!!
