coffee + magazines = rearranging

Saturday morning was the perfect combination (or storm) of coffee, a pumpkin muffin (or maybe two), and magazines (Country Living British edition, Cottages & Bungalows). Let's just say that by the final bite, I had put my sneakers on and was moving furniture in the living room (again). Inspired by magazines, fueled by caffeine, or a little of both?

Things were feeling cramped. The newest change is that I pulled out the rug and am thinking that the bare floor creates a little more visual space in the small room. In a few weeks, I hope to paint the armoire with many coats of watered-down white. It will be a good sized project since the TV and all that comes with it will need to be relocated for a few days. The drawers are also loaded with CDs.

History of the living room furniture arrangements

Hope you'll stay tuned . . .

  1. Dear Elyse,I enjoyed watching you work.Boy my Dear you still have alot of energy,but I realy forget how old you are.Enjoy while you have that energy.One big reason in my married life that I dont change furniture around,is my dear husband always attaches my big furniture to the walls everytime we move-earthquakes-hehe it's always alittle funny to me.Oh yes ,I wanted to tell you that since we've down sized big time due to retirment and all.I'm loving your idea of wall paper behind that window frame. Perfect for renters.Thanks Denise

  2. Sounds like the same way I start my days sometimes(ok alot)LOL! I like how you have it arranged and I can't wait to see your armoire painted. I know alot of people don't like the foam mini rollers but I have to say that it saved me sooooo much time when I painted my armoire and I think it turned out better than a paint brush, of course you will still have to cut in with the brush still (;

    Come take a peek at my latest blog entry, I think as a fellow Cath Kidston fan you will like the fabric covered boxes I made for my daughter's room!

    Magazines & pretty images really do get the juices going. But I'm really lazy today. It's snowing, 35 degrees, and I'm just stayin' in goofing on the computer. :)

  20. Goodness that will be a project painting that armoire!! It will look lovely though. You sweet living room is just that- sweet. I would love to have a cushy set of coaches like that! Do you know I only have 1 couch in this whole huge house and that one is a very old queen anne kind of style. Not cushy!

  22. I grabbed your button and hope you can visit Boston Bee someday. Here I am thinking that you are in a little English Cottage in a European village, and you're right in New England! You have such nice designs and I love the crisp, fresh, yet cozy look you have created in your living room. ;)Alyssa of Boston Bee

  25. Hi Elyse, love the bare floors and looking at the history this is the best setup for the floor plan, I do have to say that I love the inspiration cabinet you have in one of your post with the blue and white from Maria, Dreamy Whites......your armoir would look awesome like that..did you change your mind and want just white, either way would be awesome, but that picture really is eyecatching! Love your sofa's by the way they look so cozy and comfortable!

  28. I like the couches arranged this way. It seems a bit roomier. Maybe it's because you moved the rug. It looks great though. I'm looking forward to seeing the painted armoire.

  38. My family will tell you that I don't need coffee or magazines to rearrange. But when I get the itch, I make it happen, no matter what! My husband has come home many an afternoon to find the living room turned upside down. But I always put it right side up before turning in for the nite and then I can rest easy for a month or so before doing it all over again. :) I have many pieces to paint, too, but that I can't seem to get motivated to do. Maybe a pumpkin muffin would help. Hope you are having a great day! Tammy

  39. I hope you have some of those furniture slider thingys to go under your big pieces...makes it way easier to change things around. I used to change our family room several times a year but then the big screen TV moved in and it limits where things can go....very frustrating. Now I just move lamps, pillows and art around in there. I can't wait to see your armoire painted...bet that will make your room look larger and brighter, too. Have fun!

  40. I will stay tuned! Because I just love to see what others come up with when it comes to their furniture arrangement. I'm one of those people who loves to drive past and peer into lit windows to see how cozy their home is. I think we're all a bit like that, don't you?
