tinkered blog

Last night during dinner my husband thought I looked stressed. He was right and so I excused myself to enjoy some blog-visiting time. I began my little session by opening my own blog and was met with this image! (I added the "yikes!" for this post)

- I am not at all technical
- I had won a blog makeover a few years ago and had barely changed anything since
- I wanted to act quickly

I began to putter around. My blog had lost it's rose favicon, it's banner, it's charm. At one point, my Members gadget was reset to 0! My heart pounded. It felt like I had lost my diary or even worse, dropped it in a puddle and stood watching as the ink ran.

Within an hour or so of tinkering, it was back to a new normal with a few changes -- the biggest being renaming my blog tinkered treasures.

When I started my blog, I named it "cottage" because at that time I daydreamed about owning a shop and that's the name I envisioned. My marketing background compelled me to add a tagline so I came up with Tinkered Treasures for Your Home. Somehow Tinkered Treasures became me and my "brand" and as I opened new accounts with Etsy, Twitter and Facebook, I used it instead of cottage. Soon, others referred to me and my blog as Cottage/Tinkered Treasures so when I lost my banner yesterday and typed "cottage" in its place it didn't feel quite right; I soon deleted it and typed in tinkered treasures instead.

my mascot: the tinkering troll

So, a new year, a new blog name. No banner but hopefully a bit more streamlined and thankfully, all of my sincerely Treasured Followers.

  1. This happened to everyone who had a design by Amber. I'm grateful that I redid mine a few months ago - because I was afraid of just this thing happening!

The good part: You can rename your blog!

  4. Oh my goodness, I can only imagine the stress! BUT the upside is you are continuing to brand yourself and you fixed it all by yourself! And that is an accomplishment to be proud of.

  5. Ooops! I should have blipped you an email to mention it....am I that kind of friend? I've always hoped that I was the kind of friend to tell you that you have cookie crumbs on your chin but, now,....oh, dear! I'm not so sure...;)

Isn't it great, though, that a trouble is really just, simply, the catalyst for something good and new to happen! =]

We all want to give you hugs, now, cuz you're just cool (and cute) all!

    =D

  9. I would find you no matter what your blog was called. Tinkered Treasures certainly matches your Etsy shop. I have been trying to catch up on my blog reading and today, while shopping, I finally found the Artful Blogging magazine with your feature. I am saving it for Saturday afternoon curled up with a cup of hot chocolate. I'm ready to start some new 2012 tinkering myself!!
Happy New Year to you dear Elyse!

  16. So glad you could figure out how to get everything back. I like that you are now tinkered treasures tho, it's how I always think of you. I'm in the process of revamping my blog, tho I'm glad it wasn't forced upon me like this! I'm glad you still use the fabric pattern from Lizzie. I love it!

  17. Oh no, Elyse! Strange that I've always had you on my blog roll as Tinkered Treasures For Your Home! A few days ago, my laptop CRASHED and wouldn't reload, so I had to get a new laptop which means reloading/resetting everything. YIKES...a lot of work. Anyway, glad to hear you have your "new" blog up and running! Hope to hear from you soon (March or May...giggle)

  18. Yikes is right! A couple of weeks ago, I couldn't get on my blog or visit anyone who used blogspot as their domain. I called our internet provider and talked to several people. The Ministry here can block sites willy nilly and if they blocked blogspot, I was seriously screwed. Thankfully, by that evening, all was in working order. A new year, a new look is good. Everything happens for a reason, right. Best wishes to you, Tammy

  19. Whew! I saw once how to "back up your blog" but now I can't find info on it. Have you looked into that? Not saving your template- but the whole thing.

  24. Yup! Happened to me too. What a mess. Luckily I had Karen Valentine redo mine about a year ago and the only thing I had left from her was my signature. OH WELL!

Happy New Year my friend! "Clink" here's to new beginnings! Love the name!

    Hugs. Karen
