glorious!

Spiderwort growing along our stone wall

Glorious isn't a word I use often but I'm using it today to describe the weather. It is my favorite kind of day: 67ยบ, beautiful and bright, and with a slight chill in the breeze. Here in New England we generally go from cold to hot but today it's Spring and I'm loving it.

Over the long weekend, my husband began one of the many projects on our list: the boys' room. He "demo'ed" one of the walls which had a phoney-baloney built-in. A wall had been built around an old dresser. My husband put it outside on "Trash Eve" but I have other ideas ...

I am hoping that with a little love, lots of sanding and paint, this could be a cool potting bench. What do you think? I also rescued two drawers from the other built-in for possibilities.

The forecast predicts rain for the rest of the week. If that's the case I'll be tinkering with clothespins while I plot ideas for the potting bench and boys' room.

Hope you're enjoying some glorious weather where you live, too.

  7. Hi Elyse:

I see where you are going with the potting bench, brilliant. I use one of those old kitchen tables with the little drawer in the middle and the enamel top. Works fabulously and you just hose it off. I picked it up for $10.00 at a garage sale last year.

Love Rhode Island btw. My husband and I stayed at a lovely B&B in Bristol and simply adored it.

And yes, that was a Cath Kidston oilcloth ;)

  10. I cannot wait to see the potting bench. Throwing away something is the very last thing to do (that must be my motto lol). I have here about one million projects awaiting to be finished. Good luck and I hope for good weather!

  12. I think it's kind of funny that someone would wall over a dresser! But I like your idea a lot! I can't wait to see it completed. And yes - today we have that rain you were mentioning - but wasn't the weekend gorgeous! Loved it.

  15. Hi Elyse,
    The clips look fantastic.
Do you have any fencing or other typeof trellis where you could put a birdhouse gourd plant? I have an extra for you if you're interested. They don't take much care, love to climb and bloom beautiful white flowers. And of course, they produce the birdhouse Gourds which I think you could shabby up really wonderfully and sell.
Let me know if you're interested.
PS Meant to get back to you. Janet can't do lunch until July.

  21. Thats a great idea for the little dresser and you'll have fun making it! Your weather sounds beautiful it is so hot here in FL, it feels like Summer and has for a while now. I can't wait to see what you do for the boys rm, I'm always looking for ideas, the boys rooms are tough to design. BTW the seat cushions on my bar stools are from Target, I bought those when she first came out with that line and I wish she still had them too! Love the clothespins with the roses, so cute(;

  27. The clothes pins are adorable. I just went to someone's house and they had little handkerchiefs all hung up as a valance in her window with the close pins. It was so cute! One of these days I'm going to get some for myself to decorate.

    Enjoy your day-

  28. Found you again!!! One HD was wiped and the other is down so...whew!

It will make a great potting bench...and fancy up the drawers for under bed storage! I've got my eye out for more drawers on freecycle. I need to lift up our bed a bit to have room, but goodness, it's better with the drawers than just cramming them under there (even better if you can put casters on them!)
